Every single registered domain name has a minimum of 2 Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a certain website hosting provider. In this way, you have both your website and your e-mails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The former reveals which server deals with the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one reveals which server manages the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, any time you enter a domain in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of another provider provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the website and the e-mails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with two different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your e-mails to another company, it'll take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you decide to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if needed, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our semi-dedicated hosting plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for any of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is incredibly easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any issues, you can check out our instructional videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet advanced enough to give you full control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than 2 different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
