An access log is a complete list of all the files that were accessed by the visitors of a given Internet site. Any file that was requested in some way will be listed, so if you have only one page with three embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an illustration, the access log will contain a total of 6 entries - one for each of the 6 files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the page. A log typically contains the file name and path, the date, along with the visitor’s Operating System, Internet browser and IP address. Oftentimes you may also find the referrer websites that sent the visitors to your website. The data an access log file provides is in human-readable plain text format. It could be processed by special software on a desktop machine and used to write reports on the functionality of a site, in addition to the web stats that your web hosting server may have produced.

Access Log Manager in Web Hosting

Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As soon as you sign in to your web hosting account and take a look at this section, you shall find a list of all the domain names and subdomains you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every single domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you will see a download link as well as the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your PC and examine it or process it with some app. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect instantly, so if you don't require one, you can stop it with simply a mouse click from the exact same section of the CP. You will still be able to access the already generated content by clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Servers

Our sophisticated hosting platform shall generate access logs for any website hosted inside a semi-dedicated server account, as long as this feature is enabled. All domain names and subdomains that you have will be listed inside the Access/Error Logs section of the Hepsia Control Panel, which we provide with all of the accounts, so if you need our system to start creating logs for any of them, you should simply click on the compact button on the right side of the respective domain/subdomain and switch the default Off option to On. You'll be able to deactivate this function anytime by following the same steps. You can find a Download link for each log in the same exact section of the Control Panel, so you may save the content gathered by our system in .txt format with simply a mouse click. An existing log file may be downloaded even after the option has been deactivated, so you'll still be able to see the data which has already been generated.
